CBSA Trade Compliance Verifcations January 2020

Twice a year, CBSA releases its Trade Compliance Verification priorities list. CBSA manages Trade Compliance with the tariff classification; customs valuation and origin programs.

Verification is managed by way of random verifications or verification priorities. Some verification priorities carry over from year to year. The overall goal of these verifications are to ensure compliance with customs requirements and to ensure that the correct amount of duties is 

  1. Random Verifications measure compliance rates and revenue lost.
  2. Verification Priorities are determined by risk-based, evergreen processes.

For 2020 New Verification Priorities And Subsequent Rounds Of Verification Include:

  • Furniture for Non-Domestic Purposes 
  • Batteries
  • Footwear ($30 or more per pair)
  • Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories
  • Articles of Plastic
  • Parts of Lamps
  • Pasta
  • Cell Phone Cases
  • OIive Oil
  • Pickled Vegetables
  • Gloves 
  • Safety Headgear
  • Bags
  • Import Permit Numbers

For you to be prepared, it is best to do a preliminary review or an internal audit to ensure you are compliant with CBSA.
