Trade Regulation Updates

Additional Organic Produce Import Requirements

September 10, 2020

Updated (2020/10/1):

The requirement for a copy of the organic certificate to be submitted with the customs entry is being updated and implementation has been postponed to a date as yet unknown. This is supported by the fact the CFIA's Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) has not been updated to include this requirement.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will require additional documentation for organic produce.

Starting October 1, 2020 importers of fresh fruits and vegetables will be required to submit a digital copy of an organic product certificate when declaring organic products.

As your customs broker, we will:

1. Review all documentation received to ensure the organic product certificate is present when applicable

 2. Upload this document with your integrated Import Declaration (IID) to Customs and CFIA
