Trade Regulation Updates

Canadian Borders Remain Open To Imports Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

March 16, 2020

To our valued clients and community,

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been carefully monitoring the progression of the virus and closely following the advice of our public health authorities. We have followed their recommendations and have implemented numerous changes in our offices to focus on our highest priority—the health and safety of our staff, communities, and our Nations.

Following Prime Minister Trudeau’s address today, Canada will be closing its borders as of Wednesday, March 18th to most non-citizen and non-permanent residents. This increased measure will not affect commerce and trade, U.S. citizens, diplomats and airline crews. Due to the integration between Canada and the U.S. it has been clarified by the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection that “cross-border trucking” is an essential service.

Through the strength of our agents, carrier networks and our relationships with various government agencies we are able to closely monitor the total supply chain and will keep you informed as necessary.

During these extraordinary times we recognize the stress and concern this pandemic continues to raise and are committed to supporting you, our client, in any way we can. Email us, call us, chat us, we are here to help you. Our doors remain open to assist in keeping your import and transport activities and our collective economies going.

Sincerely,

The Pacific Group of Companies
