Customs Labor Action Update

May 24, 2024

Dear Importer,

Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) voted 96 percent in favor of striking, according to a statement released today, Friday, May 24th.

According to government officials, around 90 percent of frontline border service employees will be deemed essential for the duration of this labor action. However, it will likely still represent significant delays at all major crossings including air, marine, and land entry ports. We recommend an informed and proactive approach to ensure your imports continue smoothly.

Labor negotiations are ongoing, and mediation is expected to begin on June 3rd. As a valued client of PCB Customs Brokers, we will closely monitor this investigation and inform you of all updates as they become available.

Please see the CIU’s statement for complete details.

Please reach out to your account manager with any questions you have and for suggestions on how to adapt to this ongoing labor action. We can be reached anytime by emailing (compliance@pcb.ca or ‍tcg@pcbusa.com) or calling (604.538.1566 or 360.332.8534).
