Message to Industry – Steel Safeguard Tariff Rate Quotas

This message pertains to imports of certain steel goods (heavy plate and stainless steel wire) subject to the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods.

The purpose of this message is to inform importers that a new Notice to Importers has been published on the procedures governing the administration of safeguards on heavy plate and stainless steel wire for the period beginning on February 1, 2020 and ending after October 24, 2021.

The new Notice also contains information on applications for a quota application. Applications for a quota allocation for the February 1, 2020 and May 12, 2020 quota period will be accepted by Global Affairs Canada between January 1 and January 22, 2020. Said quota allocation, if granted, may be used only during this period. Applications must be submitted by January 22, 2020.

The new Notice, serial no. 983, will set out the allocation methodology for the next allocation periods based on the previous Notice no. 945 effective between June 3, 2019 to January 31, 2020. It may be found on the Global Affairs website here.
