Safe Food for Canadians Act Published

June 14, 2018

The Safe Foods for Canadians Act will come into force January 15th, 2019 as published in the June 13th, 2018 issue of the Canada Gazette, Part II (CGII).

The publication of this regulation signifies to the food industry the time to implement changes to their operations in order to meet the new requirements.

This act is meant to modernize, simplify and strengthen rules for food commodities imported into Canada. The act is also to provide increased export opportunities for Canadian producers.  If your business is a Canadian food importer, exports food to another country, or sells food across provinces, you may be subject to the proposed requirements which include:

  • Licensing Requirements
  • Preventative Control Plan
  • Recall Traceability Plan
