Trade Regulation Updates

Border Services Labor Action Could Begin by 4PM on Friday, June 7th.

June 6, 2024

Despite mediation this past Monday, the over 9,000 workers that are part of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) are set to begin job action as early as 4 PM on Friday, June 7th.

As 90% of the frontline Border Services Officers are considered essential workers, the border will not close, however, labor action of this type has historically caused slowdowns at the border. You are encouraged to be patient as goods will continue to cross, but a strike of this magnitude will likely affect border services.

Delays can include, but are not limited to:

  • General processing times.
  • Trade programs - including drawbacks, rulings, and adjustments
  • BN/RM Activation and Registration
  • Physical crossings due to congestion
